Hey everyone. I'll be mostly offline until probably Monday. I'm at CONvergence for the weekend and we don't have free internet in the room. I've found some wireless downstairs.
Some of you may have seen my twitter on Wednesday about running out of gas. Well, just running out of gas would have been a good thing. Oh no. Nothing that ordinary for me. My fuel pump blew out. Oh joy. We really didn't want that $700... *sigh* At least we didn't have to pay for the tow wince we have AAA.
But, since we are at the convention until Sunday I am in denial about the situation! I'll think about it again on Monday! :)

We didn't see it because we were in Madison that weekend but it obviously hit our house because our BBQ grill cover was SHREDDED.

Well, today we had the insurance inspection and we are getting new roofs for both the house and the garage, new siding, and new gutters! w00t!
We will also be taking advantage of the fact that the house will briefly be siding-less to have the windows in the dining room knocked out along with part of the wall and having patio doors put in! yay!

Now we just need to decide what color we want the HellHouse to be... Hellbob has already vetoed hot pink.

w00t!!
I got my copy of City Birds, Country Birds in the mail from Adventure Publications yesterday! :)
I'm officially a published photographer! \0/
Besides my pictures there are tons of awesome pictures in it. It's also a really fun read. Birdchick's personality definitely comes through, and I know I'm going to get a ton of useful info from it.

Unfortunately Amazon doesn't show it as available yet and just has a publication date of September 2008. Borders also doesn't show it as being available, and has a release date of September 01, 2008.

Adventure Publications does have it available to order, but it is at the cover price of $14.95 rather than the $10.17 it will be from Amazon. Since I'm planning to pick up copies for me & hellbob's parental units, I'm going to wait until I can save a little money to get them. Heck, I may be a published photographer, but I *am* an unpaid published photographer after all!

Clicky here or on picture to get to the publisher's site!

I checked the blood sugar of both cats tonight (I get paranoid about such things after having had Cougar's diabetes go undiagnosed.)
Lump's came in at a respectable 68.
Gabe's was at 176, and he hasn't had food since about 12 hours ago since he gets fed twice a day.
So I Googled feline blood sugar and found three sites with blood glucose guidlines. They were all different:
65-135 mg/dL
80-120 mg/dL
50-130 mg/dL
So basically Lumpy comes in normal, but Gabe's numbers are high. He's due for his regular checkup though, and he needs his teeth clean which means they'll have to do a full blood workup anyway since he's so old. The cranky guy will be 17 years old this fall.

The lives of strangers, and tragedy

One of the things I love about working at a photo-lab is the glimpses into other people's lives that I get from their photos. People are usually photographing the happy things in their lives. Sometimes, though, it's not so happy.

Today I got to see the life of this talented young man, Joe Sodd III

A customer called at about 2:30 wondering how fast the turn around time would be on about 200 digital pictures. That late on a Friday the standard answer would be that we'd have them done on Monday. But she said they were for a memorial service this weekend, and I didn't have any other work that had to be done today, so I let her know that if she could have them there by 3:00 or so that I would make sure they got printed before the end of the day so they could be picked up on Saturday.

She was there about 15 minutes later with the CD that had the files. She had collected the photos from friends and family, and taken the time to scan them into the computer making sure that they looked as good as possible. In between apologizing for needing them done so last minute and thanking me for being willing to do them, she said that they were for a memorial on Sunday. She said that it was for the 20 yr. old who had been stabbed outside the Triple Rock last week. I hadn't heard about the stabbing.

I got started immediately with loading all the files into the printer. An entire all-too-short life, condensed into 200 images.

I'd never met Joseph Sodd III. I'd never even heard of him before today.

Now I know these things about him:
He was a cute baby.
He had a great smile, and he smiled a lot.
He had hair that if he let it grow out, it would explode into a riot of curls.
He had amazing beautiful grey eyes.
He was a dancer.
He had a younger brother.
He loved his parents and they loved him.
He had cousins close in age.
He wasn't shy.
He had lots of friends.
His nickname was Bougie.
His life was too damn short.

Yeah, the peeks into other people's lives aren't always sunshine and puppies. This one looked like a good life and it's sad to know that it has ended. I just hope that the photos I printed bring some smiles to the family and friends.

I'm signed up at this cool new site called amiestreet.com.

They have music with no DRM that you can buy. The really cool part is the price. Everything starts FREE when it goes on there. Then they rise in price up to 98¢, based on their popularity.
Also, the artists get 70% of the sales!
So basically the songs don't quite hit the iTunes price, there's no DRM, and the artists get a heck of a lot more money per song than iTunes would give them!

It's a great way to find new artists for free. They're not all unknowns either.

And if you want to sign up give me an email and I'll send you a referral email. That way we both get free money to spend on songs. :)

And then go buy Sunspot's stuff if you don't have it yet! Their songs are all still at 15¢ & 17¢ so you can get all 4 albums for about $7 which is less than I paid for just one of them!

It just happens to be Microsoft's Patch Week, so my darling hellbob decided he shouldn't go.

Then last night as he was reading anything new on the internets about The Police he saw that their absolute final last concert together ever was going to be August 7th at Madison Square Garden in New York. And he started to hatch a plan.

So yes, hellbob will be getting two tickets for that concert tomorrow when they go on sale. He's going to go with kaldeth. They will fly out the day of the concert and fly back the next day.

Damn expensive concert, but how could I say no to him? He's put up with my James Marsters obsession, after all.

It just seems weird that after rarely flying for vacations in all our time together now we are both going to fly opposite directions without each other!

Of course, he will only get to gaze lovingly upon Sting, Andy and Stewart from afar. I, on the other hand, will most likely get to hug the adorable Mr. Jonathan Coulton. *grin*

I also have to admit to a bit of a twinge of jealousy, as I've already been to Vegas 3 other times (and Hellbob's been twice) but I've never been to New York City! Hardly seems fair seeing as how I'm the one that was born in New York state!
