It's spring! Time for snakes!

When I left work on Friday I saw five snakes!

First there were two snakes curled up together... some kind of inter-species romance...
LOL!

It was a little Red-bellied Snake, and a Garter Snake. I think the Garter was an Eastern Garter Snake, but it could possibly have been a Plains Garter Snake. (I'm sure realsarah will let me know fore sure...)

And then on the rocks near the parking lot I saw another Red-bellied snake and two more Garter Snakes.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I am a Herpetoculturist, not a Herpetologist. Which means I am more interested in how they live in captivity than I am about scale counts. I can tell you that the pink thingy in the back of the 1st pic looks more like a Dekays or brown snake but I really can't tell from that picture.

I do have other pics that show the brown one better. I'll edit the post to add one of those during my lunch break, or after work.
And since you can't tell the difference we're just going to assume it is an Eastern Garter Snake until someone tells me different!! :)

I don't think I've ever lived anywhere where snakes were readily available for casual viewing. This makes me sad.

We did see a tiny (unidentified, unphotographed) snake when we visited South Florida last month. It was the highlight of the trip (after meeting smallest nephew, of course).
