"Skua" is also a slang term at American Antarctic research stations such as the McMurdo Station or the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. It is named for the bird, and it means to salvage or scavenge for equipment or gear.
Today is spring cleaning at work and there is a common area where people bring things that still work or are in good shape that they don't want or need anymore. As people bring stuff other people scavenge through it. I've gotten some cool books and some discs of stock photos. Hard to concentrate on work now, wondering what good stuff has been brought in now...
